Alex Taylor 19:30 - 22:00

Already compared by reviewers to the likes of Bill WithersJohn MartynDamien Rice and Jeff Buckley, Alex Taylor is one of the shining lights of the acoustic scene and a troubadour of world-class standing. When you see him perform live, prepare yourself for an energetic and passionate vocal  performance, dextrous and original acoustic playing and some loop pedal trickery for good measure.

With hundreds of gigs under his belt already in the past year, including Cambridge Folk Festival,  Cheltenham Jazz festival and support slots for Michael Kiwanuka and Joss Stone, Alex will be  embarking on another extensive UK tour later this year to promote his second studio album. The new album explores various themes including alternate realities, spirituality, and how human beings connect in this modern world, or more importantly disconnect from ‘reality’. Drawing on varied influences from a wide musical spectrum, Alex’s unique style splices elements of jazz, acoustic folk and electronica to place his powerful, shape‐shifting voice firmly in the spotlight.

His debut featured some of the UK’s top talent including members of The InvisiblePhantom Limb,Portishead & Massive Attack

[Reviews]

“Sublime... Buckley-esque singer songwriter” - Time Out

"Taylor is a singer-songwriter of rare intensity... echoes of Bill Withers' jazzy folky soul" Q

“An accomplished debut… His gritty, committed vocal adds force to the superior-grade songwriting. If you like Damien Rice, you’ll find much to enjoy here”  - Guitarist Magazine ****

"An intriguing mix which... elevates the songs above the usual singer-songwriter fare" Acoustic Magazine

"Alex Taylor is One to Watch...Seek out his debut CD. If you like John Martyn, you may well love this guy" - Blues & Soul Magazine

"Taylor throws the kind of twistedly beautiful shapes on acoustic guitar that recall John Martyn, while his voice is a scratchy, committed thing that can walk across a falsetto tightrope with poise or howl like a wounded animal. An impressive introduction" - R2 magazine

"Alex is making quite a name for himself on the acoustic circuit with his dynamic solo shows, using pedals and loops to create a wall of sound with just his voice and guitar... His voice is strong, always soulful and sometimes gravelly, but most definitely distinctive... A great vocal. Superb production too... A perfect fit - if you are someone who can recognise sheer class when you hear it. I can."

Maverick Magazine

“A singer songwriter with a compelling voice... Alex Taylor’s songs are finely crafted and topped off with interesting guitar arrangements, all of which adds up to a fine performer”

Venue Magazine

"Taylor's debut LP displays quality songcraft...

as well as John Martynesque jazz inflections"

Paul Sexton, Music Week
