The Thursday Night Jazz tradition was introduced to Hot Numbers Gwydir Street by Nick Hill, known to Cambridge locals from his previous residencies at the Elm Tree and the Cricketers. We now welcome Mark Hale, a frequent guest of Nick's and outstanding Drummer, to bring fresh talent from the UK Jazz scene every Thursday. Our live music is funded through the generosity of the audience with a suggested donation of £5.
January 28th: Tom Syson Band
Percy Pursglove - "Tom Syson is one of the most interesting voices in the emerging generation of improvisers. His broad sphere of musical influence and exceptional intsrumental facility means that he is without doubt one to watch"
Tom is a creative Trumpeter and Bedfordshire resident who has recently graduated from the prestigious BMus Jazz course at The Birmingham Conservatoire. He has been lucky enough to play with people such as Jacqui Dankworth, Osian Roberts, Charlie Wood and Frank Griffith. He has already performed at many different venues and festivals, including The Cheltenham Jazz Festival, The Royal Albert Hall, The Spice of LIfe, Birmingham's Symphony Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, Southport Jazz Festival and Boisdale CW. As well as his career as a performer, he runs Conscia Jazz, a Bedford based jazz promotion and education company, which is responsible for ‘Conscia Jazz Presents: The Bedford Jazz Festival 2016’.
Tom is delighted to be joined on this five-date tour by some of the best young graduates from the UK's specialised jazz courses, Jonathan Silk on Drums, Pete Hutchison on Double Bass, David Ferris on Piano, Ben Lee on Guitar and Vittorio Mura on Tenor Saxophone. The small tour goes to a wide range of places over the UK, including Cambridge, Cardiff, London and Birmingham. They will be playing two-sets of original music.
