This afternoon Rudy will be joined by Pete Caldwell on guitar to perform cleansing jazz infused grooves.

New Zealand born Rudy Cullen is a singer, songwriter, music teacher and worship leader.  She is known for her rich soulful voice and her love of jazz and gospel music. With a British mother and a Kiwi father, Ru grew up in New Zealand, leaving 12 years ago to live in Lima, Peru. In 2005 she moved to Cambridge where she now lives with her husband and three young children.

Rudy's latest music can best be described as gospel, but her roots are in the jazz scene, where she performs with the Frankfurt based jazz trio Toru. Rudy is passionate about reflecting the heartbeat of the local church in her songwriting and has also led worship in multilingual/multinational church settings.

After three years of writing and recording, Rudy's first solo album Set the Record Straight is ready for release. She describes her album as 'raw, but hopeful', and explains, 'I had something to say about overcoming, and ultimately being overcome by knowing God in a personal way'. What results is an intimate collection of songs covering a breadth of musical styles. Her jazz background can be clearly heard and is complimented by a more narrative tone in the vein of Ricky Lee Jones, Joan Armatrading and early Bob Dylan. Rudy cites Betty Carter and Corinne Bailey Rae as other musical influences, but critics have described her as a 'long overdue fresh sound in gospel music'.
