NEW ZEALAND SINGER-SONGWRITER CLARA VAN WEL COMES TO HOT NUMBERS

After winning New Zealand’s Got Talent with her own songs in 2012, Clara has worked alongside New Zealand music industry legends such as Don McGlashan and Joel Little, both of whom were producers on her self enned, debut album ‘Clara van Wel’ which was released to critical acclaim in 2013.

Clara took part in a nationwide music tour in 2013, performing seventeen shows in the space of a month with several other New Zealand acts, whilst 2015 saw her honing her songwriting skills and performing a number of intimate acoustic gigs in venues around Wellington.

She returns to the stage after a brief hiatus from touring since moving to UK late last year, where she has been recording a number of demos and continuing her songwriting, as well as undertaking a degree in English literature.

“I can’t wait to get performing again,” she says, “There’s nothing like the thrill of a live audience and the energy you create together as they respond to the music you’ve written... It’s been fantastic to be able to take the time to really think about where my music is going, and I feel like I have something new and special to share.”

She cites Passenger, Bic Runga, Joni Mitchell and BOY as major influences on her music — a blend of indie, jazz and folk.
