Combining the rich sonorities of the bass clarinet and piano, this duo will explore the compositions of Billy Strayhorn (Duke Ellington’s composer) and also present original material inspired by his works.
Duke Ellington described Strayhorn as ‘my right arm, my left arm, all the eyes in the back of my head, my brain waves in his head, and his in mine’. His work draws on a rich harmonic palette to create expressive compositions steeped in the blues.
