A firm favourite of ours here at Hot Numbers. A community high in the hills of Colombia producing some of the best speciality coffees. We buy this coffee from our friends at The Green Collection, who support social development within the Planadas community. This guarantees each farm a fair price on their brilliant coffee. We think this coffee truly shines through an espresso machine. The sweetness in this coffee is smooth and fruity, which is why it makes up 50% of our Body & Soul blend.

Additional Information

Planadas, Tolima is one of the most isolated coffee producing regions of Colombia located in the Central Colombia Andes mountains. With limited access, other than through the town of Coyaima, mainly dirt road with conditions permitting. This causes a 12 hour trip to Ibague the province capital.

This area has fallen in the middle of the conflict zone for many years controlled by the FARC. The FARC are a forgotten region left to the discretion of the people to basically fend for themselves. having to comply with the rules or law’s, they are restricted to selling their crops to either the FNC or local trilladora’s and receiving at best only commercial prices. At these altitudes of 1600/2000 is where the real high-quality Specialties are found; the terra enriched in volcanic soils and numerous fresh mountains streams.

The Planadas area represents 48 coffee producing hamlets representing 6821 small farms ranging from .5 to 6 hectares. These are Renown for producing some of Colombia’s finest Specialty Micro-lot coffees, and are now gaining a reputation for their higher quality commercial community coffees.
