Jazz Night! Harry Bolt

w/ The Wandering Yak serving 6-9pm.

The Thursday Night Jazz tradition was introduced to Hot Numbers Gwydir Street by Nick Hill, known to Cambridge locals from his previous residencies at the Elm Tree and the Cricketers. We now welcome Mark Hale, a frequent guest of Nick's and outstanding Drummer, to bring fresh talent from the UK Jazz scene every Thursday. Our live music is funded through the generosity of the audience with a suggested donation of £5.

Harry Bolt - Piano

Harry is a London based jazz pianist and composer. Classically trained in piano at Trinity College of Music - Greenwich, his passion for jazz developed in late teens. After being awarded the Hamburg award for Improvisation two years running, he was offered a full scholarship to Birmingham Conservatoire. During his third year he became the youngest pianist ever to lead his own trio aboard the Queen Mary 2 Ocean Liner, in the summer of 2013. On return, Harry was invited to join the prestigious Clark Tracey Quintet, which showcases the brightest new talents on the UK jazz scene. Together they recorded the CD “Meantime” in 2014, followed by a UK tour, which continues and includes regular appearances at Ronnie Scott’s, 606 jazz club, the Vortex and Pizza Express Dean Street, in addition to the Herts, Cheltenham, Isle of Wight and Llandudno Jazz Festivals and more. Harry plays from the heart with versatility, energy and with subtle, soulful flair. He transitions seamlessly from bop to early stride, ingeniously combining the traditional with the contemporary. As he says “If you surprise yourself, you invariably surprise your audience!” Expect the Unexpected – from an artist who takes inspiration from the likes of Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Jacky Terrasson, Yaron Herman, Brad Mehldau, Robert Glasper, Joey DeFrancesco, Wynton Kelly, Larry Goldings, Thelonious Monk, Neil Cowley, John Taylor, Kit Downes, Liam Noble, Herbert Nuss, Aaron Parks, Alan Pasqua, Peter Bernstein and Pablo Held. His composition work has found him as runner up in the Sibelius Jazz Composer of the year and his soon-to-be-released debut album will be an opportunity for him to showcase his impactful music. The Harry Bolt Trio is much in demand as is Harry as a solo pianist/accompanist appearing regularly at London Venues such as the Waldorf, Savoy, Pizza Express Pheasantry, Wembley Stadium Bobby Moore Club, Simpsons in the Strand and the Playboy Club as well as the Blue Piano and Bar Epernay in Birmingham. He has the innate ability to always deliver exactly the music his audience hoped for.

The future looks bright with a return to the Queen Mary 2 for the Harry Bolt Trio in summer 2015 and the release of his debut album later this year!
