Matt Thomas Thompson’s debut album has been described by (Time Out Manchester) as ‘A dazzling collection of 'Acoustic Northern Pirate folk tales’ and by another leading Manchester producer as ‘A unique cryptic storyteller’
"Songs For Little Boy Wonder" is dedicated to, but not about his 8 year old son Kenny,
and Matt's debut explores ideas of legacy and loss but also freedom and bravery.
Matt states he really wanted to give his son amongst other things an insight into his father’s creative mind.
Having lost both parents at a relatively young age Matthew was fascinated by what his parents left him in terms of understanding where they were creatively as he realised there were parts of all our parents personalities we all wished we knew more about.
Matt states " I realise I am very much like my father and can now start to see that my son is equally like me.
My hope for this very personal project is that when I'm long gone many many years from now Kenny will one morning put some of my music on and truly get a wider sense of what his daddy was about, and it really is as simple as that. Perhaps the more he understands me the more possibilities there are to understand himself.
With his brilliant unique fingerpicking technique and infectious rhythm’s Matt is equal parts Dylan, Bragg, Davies with a cheeky dash of Jake Thackery thrown in for good measure. Having said all this he’s very much a unique songwriter and refreshing voice in his very own genre.
